Capital City Concludes Ke Yona Try uts

Nedbank’s search for the country’s next football stars reached its final stage at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 04 June. This year’s edition of the idols of football started in the Free State and subsequently travelled to Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. The Gauteng province is never short of talent and once again proved a fertile ground for the Ke Yona team coaches to scout for talent. Flair and creativity were the order of the day as the four coaches pored over the talent on display and were spoilt for choice.

The campaign has resulted in over 2000 aspiring footballers across the country taking up the opportunity provided by Nedbank to become South Africa’s next football stars. Players such as Ian Chikohwa who was the Ke Yona team captain last year and less than 12 months later, he scored his first professional goal in the same tournament that identified him while Aubrey Maphosa Modiba was voted PSL young player of the season are proof of the working formula of this innovative talent scouting campaign.

Speaking on behalf of Nedbank, Sponsorship Manager for football properties at Nedbank, Tutu Skosana said, “we are pleased at the continued growth of the Ke Yona Team search. As a bank for all, we are committed to enabling  the communities that we serve and the Ke Yona Team Search is one of many ways in which Nedbank continues to make the things that really matter happen.”

Over and above the exciting football action displayed on the field, Nedbank continued delivering on its promise of making a positive change in the lives of people as pupils of Fusion Secondary School and Erasmia Primary School joined thousands of other learners who have received football kits from the on-going partnership between Nedbank and The Sports Trust.

The Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search will now move to the next exciting phase of the bootcamp where a total of 48 selected players from the five different provinces will undergo vigorous fitness training and play friendly matches to trim down the squad to the final 18-man squad that will face winners of this year’s Nedbank Cup, Supersport United in September.
