Soccer Development Programme
The Nedbank Soccer Development Programme is linked to the legendary Nedbank Cup. Since 2010 Nedbank has provided over 500 soccer kits as well as equipment to learners in disadvantaged schools throughout South Africa. The Nedbank Sport Affinity has invested more than R5 million in soccer development projects in more than 500 South African schools. These resources encourages and enables young girls and boys to play and enjoy the beautiful game, and develop their skills to their full potential.
A key contributor to this programme is the annual Goals4Goals campaign during the Nedbank Cup, where players are encouraged to score more goals, not only to advance their teams and thrill their fans, but also to contribute towards sport development. All donations are used to train and equip disadvantaged learners, as well as to improve soccer facilities. This is as much about soccer development as it is about community development, where young people need healthy avenues for sport and recreation.
The soccer development programme also provides a platform for the development of South Africa’s future soccer stars. Boys and young men are able to work towards the opportunity of entering the annual Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search, where talented 18 to 25 year olds throughout South Africa are identified and selected to play in the Nedbank Cup.
